Recently we planned a family trip to St. John’s , Newfoundland and Labrador . It is a nice opportunity to spend time with our children who are now teenagers. One of the main reasons we go to town is to explore some of the amazing restaurants to city has to offer. I wanted to find a balance of restaurant choices that would please them and well as my wife and I , so we picked Piatto Pizzeria downtown St. John’s.
Piatto is a small room with a great deal of character. The handmade wood fired pizza’s and pasta were a hit with my family.
You have to appreciate a handcrafted and wood fired pizza, especially when it is made in front of you. Piatto holds a VPN-certification from Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN), meaning it is authentic Neapolitan pizza made right here in Atlantic Canada.
This guy rocked the room all by himself. There was just enough time to enjoy a wonderful glass of wine and soak in the ambience. My son Kaegan had the Americana Fresh fior di latte mozzarella, garnished with pepperoni.
My Wife Lisa had the “Stephanie”
Soft goat cheese, crispy prosciutto with caramelized pears. Finished with a drizzle of balsamic reduction which was awesome, a fantastic depth of flavor (I had to try some!!)
I had the Wild Boar Ragu Lasagna , so rich in flavour!!
Traditional Italian lasagna made with boar ragu, béchamel, Grana Padano with smoked cheese. The cheese and sauce were the rock star of the dish. It paired well with the house made Caesar Salad.
My daughter and I shared the Caesar Salad, the vinaigrette was tangy and parmesan cheese has a rich flavour that held it all together. High Points
- Server was kind and attentive to some of our dietary needs
